Overview:
The eagerly anticipated release of the 2023 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination results will be announced by Mrs Angie Motshekga, the Minister of Basic Education, on 18 January 2024. Candidates can access their results on 19 January 2024, although technical issues may delay some results. Notably, students are urged to acquire their statements of results from their respective schools or examination centres.
Results Queries and Corrections:
Candidates should promptly address result queries, with a submission deadline of 30 days after the result release date. Correctness of personal details such as names and identity numbers on the statement of results should be verified, and any necessary corrections must be reported to the Department by 21 February 2024.
Re-Marking and Re-Checking Procedures:
For candidates seeking a re-mark or re-check of examination scripts, applications must be submitted by 2 February 2024. The fees for re-marking and re-checking per subject are R120.00 and R29.00, respectively. Viewing of scripts following a re-mark or re-check is possible, with an application deadline within 7 days after the release of re-mark or re-check results, subject to a fee of R234.00.
Supplementary Exams and Conditions for Entry:
The February/March supplementary examination has been phased out. Instead, a new examination window is available in May/June for candidates to improve or complete outstanding results. Conditions for entry include subject registration in previous November examinations, valid reasons for absence in previous exams, and the option to enhance overall achievement or individual subject performance.
Post-Examination Options for Candidates:
Candidates not eligible for the June NSC examination have various alternatives:
- Re-enrolment as a full-time repeater candidate at a school if under 21.
- Registration as a part-time repeater candidate at a Public Adult Education Centre.
- Enrollment for the Senior Certificate (SC) examination for individuals above 21 years.
- Pursuit of vocational education and training at Public Further Education and Training (FET) colleges across South Africa.
As the results approach, candidates are encouraged to stay updated with further instructions and procedures from the Department of Basic Education to ensure a smooth process and appropriate course of action.
