Position Purpose
Dis-Chem Pharmacies Security Stores in KZN has an opportunity for security guards to render a security service in terms of the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001, as amended for the Dis-Chem Group. The role involves protecting assets, property, and staff by creating a safe and secure environment, through identifying signs of criminal activities or disorder and investigating disturbances while adhering to relevant legislation and best practices.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 – Matric or a Senior Certificate
- Certification: Grade C accreditation with the PSIRA
- Experience: At least 3 years in the retail industry (shopping malls and warehouses)
- Preferred Experience: At least 1 year specific previous experience in a similar role
Job Description
- Surveillance: Be vigilant and alert to identify suspicious activities and apprehend criminals or remove violators.
- Patrols: Conduct random patrols of the premises to ensure optimal visibility and reduce risks.
- Access Control: Monitor and control access to the premises, documenting and regulating entry by vehicles or pedestrians.
- Investigation: Investigate and report signs of damage or unlawful entry.
- Visibility: Maintain high visibility as a deterrent to criminal activities.
- Customer Service: Be courteous, friendly, and willing to help others.
- Searches: Perform staff, supplier, and merchandiser searches.
- Documentation: Maintain and complete all registers and occurrence books.
- Supervision: Supervise refuse removal and other security-related tasks.
- Protection: Protect the property and assets of the business.
- Incident Reporting: Report unusual or suspicious behavior and incidents to management.
- Opening/Closing: Be present during site opening and closing procedures.
- Frisking: Conduct personnel frisking and searches.
- Vehicle Searches: Perform thorough vehicle searches.
- Crisis Management: Handle crisis situations and report to management.
- Alarm Monitoring: Monitor alarm systems and emergency equipment.
- Emergency Assistance: Provide assistance during emergencies.
- Evacuation: Maintain order during evacuation procedures.
- Security Advice: Offer security advice and safety warnings.
Competencies
- Essential: PSIRA knowledge, fire emergency and Health and Safety Training, English proficiency (read, write, speak)
- Advantageous: Proficiency in a third language
Special Conditions of Employment
- PSIRA Registration: Grade C PSIRA accreditation
- Citizenship: South African Citizen
- Screening: Clear criminal and credit records (MIE)
- Transport: Driver’s license, own reliable transport, and PDP when deployed as a driver
