Yesterday only, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has also put out multiple Yellow Level warnings for thunderstorms and damaging winds in some areas of the Northern Cape, Free State, North West, and Western Cape.
What’s Happening?
These severe storms are not only characterized by much rainfall. They can lead to:
- Flooding: RSF forecast reveals that intense rainfall can result in flooding and inundation of buildings and roads within the locality.
- Infrastructure Damage: Thus rainstorms, strong wind gusts and lightning pose threat to buildings and can cause disruption to some services.
- Travel Disruptions: Rainwater accumulation and low visibility increases the risks of having an accident when driving.
