First out, Elina Svitolina the 28-year-old from Ukraine defeated the fourth seed Jasmine Paolini. Svitolina has been pressing her opponent more while having better and more consistent shots from the base line, thus shocking the opponent.
In the men’s section, the 21st seed from America Ben Shelton defeated the 16th seed from Italy, Lorenzo Musetti. A combination of Shelton’s serves and fore hands overwhelmed Musetti throughout the match.
Teen star Learner Tien who is only 19 years of age advanced through more rounds as he saw off his opponent Corentin Moutet. This makes Tien the youngest man to reach the round of 16 since Rafa Nadal this calender year.
Australian pick, Alex de Minaur had home crowd backing as he struggled to beat Francisco Cerundolo. Speed and agility played a big role in De Minaur’s win.
The bigger surprise of the round was Gael Monfils, a seeded player who overcome fourth-seeded Taylor Fritz in a four-set victory. Monfils proved everyone why he is the entertaining guy he is, and what a difference experience makes.
In the women categories second seed Iga Swiatek was in a commanding form she dismissed Emma Raducanu and moved to the fourth round. Swiatek did an excellent job of putting constant pressure on Raducanu and the young star had no answers to most of Swiatek’s shots.
The day was however fine, with clear skies; the temperature reached 28 degrees Celsius, which was ideal for tennis.
