Job Description

Are you a highly motivated graduate with a passion for climate science and agriculture? This is your chance to secure an MSc student bursary in agrometeorology in South Africa. The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is offering a unique opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research on climate variability/change and agriculture in Pretoria Central.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research: Conduct research on climate variability/change and its impact on agriculture.
  • Support: Provide research support to Agrometeorology research projects as an affiliated postgraduate student.
  • Engagement: Engage with relevant stakeholders within affiliated research projects.
  • Dissemination: Disseminate project results through peer-reviewed and popular publications, as well as presentations at conferences.
  • Data Handling: Collect, process, and interpret data, making internal project recommendations.

Job Requirements

  • Educational Background: BSc in Agrometeorology, Climate Science, Geography, Environmental Sciences, Ocean and Atmosphere Science, Water Science, Mathematics, Physics, or similar quantitative fields.
  • Motivation: Highly motivated graduates with a strong academic background.
  • Programming Skills: Programming experience with Python, R, or a similar language (or willingness to learn) is essential.
  • Travel Willingness: Must be willing to travel to farming communities and remote areas for intermediate periods.
  • Communication Skills: Good communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license (code 08/EB) is an added advantage.
