Why Private Schools Get Matric Results Before Public Schools
Understanding Matric Results Timing
Find out why private schools in South Africa get their matric results before public schools and implications for learners.
The outcomes of matric learners for the current year’s South Africa holders of the Class of 2024 have raised interest and specifically as to when the results will be released. Private schools especially those under IEB often release their results than the public school.
Thus year the IEB passed 98,47 %,this showing the success of private intuitions as opposed to government ones. On the other hand, the national pass rate as provided by the public schools was 87.3%. The difference can be explained by the different examination schedules of the private and public institution.
Due to increased centralization of the organizational structure, private schools may achieve result compilation in a shorter time than other schools. However, they enlist fewer candidates than public schools, and this means that they work faster employing fewer resources.
The Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube pointed out that this year’s results can be considered a success embedded in students’ endurance as many of them’ education process was interrupted because of COVID-19. More notably, 47.8% public school candidates came out with Bachelor passes up from previous years.
Having releases their results earlier than public schools, the students get involved in planning of their future early. While most of the public school students are waiting for their results, they can start applying for universities or any other opportunity of learning.
Lastly, the former requires students to sit separate examination bodies and processes which mainly contribute to the above noted timing difference. The difference observed here means that the situation in terms of education in South Africa is quite diverse which somehow makes important questions of equality of access to education arise.
