This paper aims at investigate the role of Pro Kid, a founder of South African hip-hop and why is he still unbeatable.
South African hip hop was given a boost by recently deceased Linda Mkhize better known as Pro kid. His amalgam of the Soweto / township vernacular with standard English made him unique among his fellow artists.
He was not only a rapper, but more than that, he can best be described as a social historian of the black township.
Others have considered songs like “Soweto” and “Wozobona” hits; indeed, his music touched fans across the nation. Heads & Tales also constitutes as the proof of Pro Kid’s worth as it is his debut album releasing him in the naive world of the music.
This revealed his ability in lyrical content, and more importantly, his real life experience gained him recognition in the industry.
He is the subject of many new artists in today’s society who claim that made them realize their passion through him. Unfortunately, Pro succumbed to death on 5th January 2018, but he was so influential.
People are not distancing themselves and send tributes to pay respect to his works in music and culture. The Kasi Rap would later be pioneered by other artists for whom he influenced laid the ground work.
